Butterflies

Butterflies

Any lampworker who takes part in the Beads of Courage program will tell you that the Butterfly Beads are the hardest to make - not for the skill involved but for why we make them - what they mean.

Any parent who has received a Butterfly Bead will tell you that they are both the hardest bead to receive and the most precious as well...

I've been thinking of butterflies a lot lately. I've been thinking of all of the children that I worked on when I worked at the hospital, all of the parents, and of my own parents - two dead and one very precious, strong woman that I watch die a little every day.

Butterflies and sailing ships....

My sister sent a poem to me when our mom died and it's been on my mind a lot lately - that and butterflies.

Anyone who has trouble making the butterflies or who has received them (in any form), this may help....

What is dying?
A ship sails and I stand watching
till she fades on the horizon,
and someone at my side
says, "She is gone".
Gone where? Gone from my sight,
that is all; she is just as
large as when I saw her...
the diminished size and total
loss of sight is in me, not in her,
and just at the moment
when someone at my side
says "she is gone", there are others
who are watching her coming,
and other voices take up the glad shout,
"there she comes!" ...and that is dying.

Beads of Courage Frit Sample Grab Bags!!!

To make your life easier I'm offering Beads of Courage Sample Grab Bags, each with five pot-luck samples! I'm starting with the main category/manufacturer but if these seem to take off then I may break them down into color choice. The frits are 96 COE as are the blends unless otherwise stated!

Limit 2 bags per order.

HELP!!!!

Almost have the complete set of 96 COE GG Glass Blends mixed and listed - waiting on 2 frits to arrive from OCR. It's amazing how you can overlook something that you looked at about a million times!

Now I need SERIOUS help!

I have SO many new frits and no test beads! If you happen to see a frit that has no "real" frit picture while you're browsing, order a BOC sample and make some beads for the kids. Send me pictures of the beads - remember, not only do you get credit for the "poster child" bead picture, you get entered into the drawing for Artisan of the Month!!! Best of all, the kiddos get beads!!

Jarred

I haven't been able to get to my torch for days now - I bought "a few" jars from Gail along with her frit recipe licences.... UPS brought three HUGE boxes! My goodness! I just loved Gail when we spoke on the phone - she's a very nice, funny & straightforward woman even in the middle of the chaos of moving and reevaluating her business priorities (what she really wants to continue to do) and the stress of how to handle the change.

But oh my goodness she is generous as well! I wound up with three HUGE boxes of various sizes of absolutely wonderful jars! And they're so much lighter than mine - I'll have to look at the company that she ordered from. I love them!

Needless to say, Gail's jars and kilos of new frit that I've ordered have somehow taken over the working half of my studio, so trying to get to my torch is beyond a joke at the moment! I'll post pictures later if I get a chance...

Order those Beads of Courage samples and make those beads for the kids! Send me beads or pictures ('cause I sure as heck can't make test beads from any of the tons of new frits myself right now!!!!)

Have fun with the new colors and new blends - many, many thanks again to Gail Joseph for letting me purchase those licences! I'm having a BLAST mixing the "new" blends and Lord help me getting ideas for new ones....
